- Childrens Home. Provides a safe, loving and enriching home for up to 20 children.
The children attend a local school, and tuition is paid for by sponsors through Help
in Action, a separate non-profit organization. The home also provides employment
for several local people, including a house manager, employed by Ghar Sita Mutu.
- Childrens Saturday Arts Program. Free dancing, drama and drawing classes are provided
on Saturdays for local children. It is not unusual for 150 children to show up for
the Saturday classes.
- Childrens Learning Center. A pilot program provides daily tutoring to teach literacy
to children who are not in school, with the goal of helping them obtain scholarships
to attend a formal school. Currently, four children are served, with a goal of eventually
serving 30 children.
- Women’s Training. Free sewing, knitting and felt-making classes are taught to local
women, who in turn are making items that are marketed mainly in the U.S. The marketing
of the items, which include bags, puppets and wall hangings, is in the development
stages. Three women have been given donated sewing machines to open their own small
businesses. Because many women don’t have any time to take the classes because they
are working, a program has been started, where a small number of women are paid to
take classes five days per week with a goal of making the women self-sufficient.
- Family Outreach Program. We provide emergency help to families in need, as well
as more formal charity programs such as our Goat Project, which provides a goat to
a family to raise and breed, helping them to raise their standard of living.
